I'm back here with another analysis/review and theory post for NCT 2021 YearDream : Stage 1 - Seeing Myself in a Dream! This one is definitely an odd episode. Let's get started!

First is Jisung's scene. I'm so confused by it. He's throwing a ball while looking really bored. Then, when it falls under the bed, he looks under the bed and grabs it. He looks under the bed again and sees a dog that's telepathically talking to him...in his voice???
Unlike the other members in this YearDream, Jisung is the only one that didn't have a clone of himself...unless the dog is his clone?🤔 Bruh...
Next is Renjun's scene. He's hungry and orders some food. To his surprise, the delivery guy is himself.
After that, is Doyoung's scene. He's riding in a car and he's listening to the radio and the host is Doyoung too. Host Doyoung read the story about Doyoung wanting to win a choir competition and play a song to cheer him on. After that moment the radio glitches and the resonance sound plays. Doyoung wakes up and sees another car drives up. He waves but whoever's behind the window doesn't respond. He rolls down the window and sees the ocean, then a clip from NCTmentary: Winwin watching ocean waves through a brick wall. He wakes up again and we hear Focus playing, which was the requested song. Clearly, that was another dream within a dream cuz he was in a dream, fell asleep, woke up, and then was in another dream. Then he woke up back to the previous dream. Trippy.
Just like Jisung and Doyoung, Kun and Yangyand both have clones: Kun saw his clone in the mirror when getting dressed and Yangyang played quash with his clone.
Haechan's scene was seriously one of the cutest YearDream scenes ever. He was literally playing a game against himself and all the characters were 8-bit versions of him.
I'm soft.🥺
All of the members had a clone but I think there's something different and symbolic about each one. Jisung's clone wasn't an exact clone; it was him as a dog. Renjun's was a clone that looked like him, but they were exactly the same since they had different occupations. Doyoung and his clones don't meet each other but they know about each other. Kun sees his clone in the mirror and they both look the same. Yangyang has an exact clone AND actually interacts with him. Haechan's clone or clones are similar to both Doyoung and Yangyang in the sense that he can interact with them like Yangyang but doesn't come face-to-face with the clones, just like Doyoung.
I'm not sure what this all means but I'll give it a shot... 🥴
MY THEORY
Jisung, Renjun, Doyoung, Kun, Yangyang, and Haechan are all inside of their dreams. Their clones are a result of them being in dreams within dreams. For example, in one dream, Haechan is dreaming about being a character inside a video game; in another, he's dreaming about playing a video game against himself. The type of clone, the situation, the setting, and the interactions or lack thereof are symbolic but what does it all mean?
All I know is that they are in dreams within dreams and are cloning as a result. The way it makes sense to me is to think about it as the Droste effect.
Here's an example:

My reaction to all the crazy, big-brained theories NCTzens come up with. 😂 |
Now for a really great theory from another Czennie...
NCTZEN THEORY

I find this theory very interesting. On first instinct, you could think that their clones might be ae but they're actually a result of being in dreams within dreams. One thing I never thought about is the eye from NCTmentary EP. 4 that OP mentioned. It makes sense that the eye is the synchronization point since Yuta's clones became one when he approached the eye. It's almost as if the eye is emitting some kind of energy that duplicates them.

What do you think about @aintkwing's theory? Do you think the way the clones appear means something like I theorized? Let me know what you think in the comments!
