UNLOCKING THE POWER WITHIN | NCT 127 - Superhuman MV

Reading time: 2 min 30 sec

"Superhuman" definitely has so many captivating points and it uplifting and powerful musically, lyrically, and visually so let's get into this review.

Pros

  • Powerful intro
  • Cinematic sound and visuals
  • Beautiful editing
  • Cool styling
  • Smooth, sharp, dynamic choreography
  • Unique musical colors
  • Uplifting lyrics

Cons

  • None

The beginning of the MV just has all the sci-fi that my nerd heart could ever desire but when the intro to the song comes on... I swear you could get goosebumps. Whoever decided that this would be a great intro to the song, thank you so much!

It's just one short line but that doesn't stop it from being one of the catchiest and the best along with the end. 🤣

I know I'm not the only one that says "YEEAAHH SU-PER-HU-MAN!" whenever this song starts playing and "YEAAH" after they say, "If you wanna feel it say yeah". 🤣😭😅

But back onto the sci-fi aspect of the MV. Everything from the sets, effects, sound, and styling just scream futuristic. I actually find this particular futuristic concept interesting since the song itself sounds a bit like late second gen's but the MV has the current gen's futuristic sound. The whole MV feels like a sci-fi movie and this song is its soundtrack. These part of the MV look super sci-fi, just the best!

The choreo for this is also in my top favorites since it lowkey has some groove to it and it follows every beat in the bass of the instrumentals. I also find it easier to learn compared to their others but it still has the same energy as the others. Another thing that this choreo has, especially in the chorus, is that it's especially dynamic and has big movements like this part right here:

Now mainly focusing on the song only, there is also a uniqueness to how the song is structured. I could tell but not really put a finger on it until I saw this video. He could explain it way better than I can 'cause I am not well versed in music theory. 🤣

This made me want to hear more experimentation with tone and structure in songs because a lot of mainstream music doesn't get out of their comfort zone.

The lyrics are some of my favorites up there with "Limitless" and "Chain" because they all have this uplifting message of creating change, breaking out of boxes, and unlocking the power within.
It's actually nice that this is usually the main theme in many of NCT's (especially 127's) songs because it's not so common to get messages from K-pop songs that all fans can relate to and gain strength from.
