NCT MVs Theory | THEORY

I've been wanting to write a theory since I first found out about NCT during their debut.

I didn't before but I'm doing it now, guess! So let's get started! I hope ya'll will comment and share this 'cause this took me FOREVER!!! (I warned you, it's pretty long, hence why it took me forever.)

7th SENSE & WITHOUT YOU

Now first with "The 7th Sense" and "Without You". 

To me, the story of  "The 7th Sense" is more in the lyrics rather than the MV.


"어제가 오늘 또 오늘이 어제
eojega oneul tto oneuli eoje
Yesterday is today, today is yesterday"

"반복되는 매일도 괜찮다고
banbokdoeneun maeildo gwaenchanhdago
Each day repeats but it’s okay"

These verses seem to hint that the time is repeating and that they're re-living it.

"차가운 세상 두 눈을 감고
chagaun sesang du nuneul gamgo
In this cold world, I’m closing my eyes"

The verses below seem to hint that they're seeing their future and that it's a pretty dark and eerie one that's haunting them.

"깊은 어둠 위를 걸어
gipeun eodum wireul geoleo
I’m walking on top of a deep darkness"

"어둡게 색칠 된 미래
eodubge saekchil doen mirae
my future is colored darkly"

They also say that they see the truth hidden somewhere so the dream that
they're in seems to be the lie. So for " The 7th Sense", I feel like they're experiencing this dream/reality that keeps repeating itself and while that happens,
they see what's really going on and are becoming aware of it.

I think that the song was like an introduction to the overall concept of NCT.

Now onto "Without You"...


I heard that the whole MV was Jaehyun's dream which to me, makes perfect sense.

Now what I think was going on is that Jaehyun was dreaming about the girl (whom I think he might've been in a relationship with) with Doyoung.

It's seems like in the dream Doyoung was in a relationship with this girl but it is really obvious when but I think it's probably after Jaehyun had her. So through his dream, Jaehyun is seeing the two of them together.

When they meet up in the store, it seems like they all know this girl especially since Taeil had some kind of flashback of the him and the girl as children and she was whispering something in his ear. I think they must've been childhood friends.

I think Taeil is maybe just maybe seeing part of Jaehyun's dream since he saw little flashes of the girl and Doyoung. I'm not really sure.

I also notice that all of them are watching the time and that the time barely passed.


In Jaehyun's scene at 1:26, the time is this: 👇

Then in less than a second, it changes to this:👇

and from 1:26 to 2:10 only 1 minute passed. 

This was the time at 2:10: 👇

So this confused me a bit.

I think Winwin's appearance in the MV also plays part in the story cause you see Taeil go into this storage room, the it goes to the scene of the train that Winwin was on. Taeil was the one that walked by Winwin and for some odd reason when Taeil got right next to him, he stopped tapping his fingers on the armrest. Weird.... I don't know exactly what part Winwin plays in this but their something interesting about that. Maybe Winwin knew Taeil.

Doyoung (I think) was also seeing some kind of experimentation going on in this dark lab, then later Jaehyun and Taeil saw it too! Also the tattoo artist that was tattooing the girl's arm has this tattoo under his eye that is shown close up. I think there's something up with that too. Check the clip and make sure to slow it down to 0.25.

I'm not quite sure but it seems like there's something going on with that ink and the tattoo artist is either involved or knows about it.

So overall, what I see is that Doyoung and Taeil saw glimpses of Jaehyun's dream and Jaehyun realized that the girl is with Doyoung and Taeil realizes that she is his childhood friend and I bet he liked her too. They all seen that there was some experimentation going on and it was with the ink that the tattoo artist was tattooing on the girl.

For Winwin, I feel like he and Taeil have some relation to each other in this MV. They probably knew each other in the past.

I don't really know how it all fit together but maybe a future MV might help. 😄😄😄

I'd like to say that "Fire Truck", "Chewing Gum", and "My First and Last" are filler stories.

FIRETRUCK



 With "Firetruck", if you don't already know, the boys are playing as the girl's "guardian angels"
 throughout her life and some dangerous because there were scenes where there
were actual potential fires too!

So they were metaphorically and literally helping her out;
 when she was stressed about her sand castle, when she was stressed at school,
when she got into a "sticky" situation with that guy in the club,
when her boss was mistreating her at work, and when she was at the dinner table with her
 husband and son.

If you watch the clip you'll also see that in those sitiuations there were not only metaphorical "fires" but ACTUAL fires in each scene.

At the end it seems like she remembered what they did for her before she died (or fell asleep, I hope) and you see another kid who seems to be her grandson and they move onto being that kid's "guardian angel" too!  It's a sweet story when people actually get it and don't corrupt it. 😊😊😊

CHEWING GUM

This is honestly another cute story that people corrupted too.
*sighs for 3 minutes and 21 seconds straight *

If it's not already clear to you or you haven't seen it, the boys are in some type of preppy boarding school where gum is not allowed. The teacher suspected that one of them had gum and he found that out. So they stayed up and got their secret stash of candy and for some reason when to this weird room and played around there.

The teacher probably thought something was up so he went to check up on them and seen that the were not in their bed sleeping but int that room. They tied him to this chair with  some kind of pink gooey stuff.

After all of that happened, the teacher check again to make sure they didn't have any gum or candy. But you see Jisung low key still had something. (Don't know what that is tho...)

This was probably one of the cutest MVs I've ever seen (including "My First and Last")!


MY FIRST AND LAST





This song and MV was cute and had a pretty realistic situation. Student crushing on a teacher.
Not much to say about it since you guys already had this story down from the get go and it's pretty obvious compared to the others.

LIMITLESS




I feel like "Limitless" is part of the story line mainly because of the lyrics. Some elements in "The 7th Sense" are practically directly related and  even repeated see:

They relate in a sense and I think that "Limitless" is when they actually know the truth that they seen in "The 7th Sense" and find their freedom from their nightmare . "Limitless" seems to finish what "The 7th Sense" started.

DREAM IN A DREAM

I take this song and MV as the "closure" of this "chapter" of the story. The idea that Ten is caught between dream and reality is concluding what all the other songs/MVs had. The whole
dream vs. reality concept that NCT has is represented through the concept of this song.

I remember reading this theory for this MV on the NCT Amino and I read something that I actually think might be the case.
The lady and Ten dancing is  like them fighting but then later you see them join together.

Yukhei/Lucas and the lady are Yang (陽) and Ten is Yin (陰). That's probably why Ten and Yukhei/Lucas separate and Ten and the lady joined together and why Yukhei/Lucas was holding the moon. That's also probably why, overall, they wore black and Ten mostly wore white.


ALL MVs

All together, I think it all goes like this: "The 7th Sense" is the introduction to the story and describes their 7th sense awakening and being in use. The song also describes what they've experienced in their dreams and the "Without You" MV does that too!

The story pauses for filler stories like "Firetruck" and "Chewing Gum" then "Limitless" finishes the experiences they had in "The 7th Sense" and describes them free from their nightmares and knowing the truth that they found.

Then "Dream In A Dream" closes up this part of the story by using the concept of being stuck between dream and reality.




Whew!!! That was long!
